No One Talks in English Class

So, I've been in college for about four semesters now (if you count the Summer Session) and I've taken about six English classes so I think that I'm qualified to assert that no one talks in English class! Now, when I say English class I'm talking about the awkward five to ten minutes when everyone is just sitting in the classroom waiting for the professor to get there. And, in English classes, in that time, from anywhere from five to fifteen minutes, no one says a word.

The weird thing is that, I've taken a decent number of non-English classes, and, in those classes, no one can shut up. Take bio for instance, everyone's always making plans for the weekend or talking about last weekend or complaining about their teachers/tests/girlfriends/the price of weed. Even after the professor gets there, they're still talking. In math, I've heard tales of drunken mistakes, recaps of Family Guy episodes, and homework answers being swapped, all while the lecture is going on.

That's why I'm really not sure what's going on in English classes. Come on English majors, I know that you're shy, but this is a little bit ridiculous. Even the people who know each other usually just say 'hi' and then go back to their books. That's another thing, I could understand if it was quiet because everyone was reading, but they're usually not. That is what baffles me. Everyone is doodling in their notebooks or texting or staring at a wall from behind their hipster glasses.

So, in conclusion, I don't really know why English majors don't talk. Maybe they're all afraid that someone will steal their brilliant essay ideas, I don't know. Maybe I'll just become a mute this semester.

Apparently, You Can't Spray Paint Furniture: The Story of My Bookshelf

Before  So, today my friend and I decided to paint a book shelf that we're planning to use in our apartment. Naturally, we decided to paint it pink, because whoever said orange is the new pink was seriously disturbed. Well, long story short, fifty five dollars, five hours, and two pink knees later, we found out that you can't paint furniture with spray paint. While I understand that this would be totally obvious to most people, clearly, it's not obvious to me. Everyone was like, 'you have to use real paint and primer and rollers and little brushes to paint a book shelf or it will EXPLODE' (I may be exaggerating a little bit), and I was like 'but that sounds so expensive and complicated...I'm just going to use spray paint'. In my defense, my roommate and I did go to Lowes and ask the lady at the paint counter what we should use to paint the bookshelf, and she was all like 'well, if it's not very big, you could probably use spray paint'.

What Happened to Ernest?

So, I've been required to read Frankenstein twice, once in college and once in high school, so I know that the book raises a lot of questions and themes, like the nature and importance of beauty and appearance in society and literature, what is considered monstrous in popular culture, the dangers of scientific exploration, etc, etc. But, to me, perhaps the most important question the book raises is what happened to Ernest ? In case you are unfamiliar with Frankenstein, let me give you a brief plot summary. Victor Frankenstein, the title character, decides that it's a good idea to build an eight foot tall quasi-man, animal creature while he's away at college. After he brings the creature to life, he has a freak out and runs away. After this, his creature, through a series of convoluted events, ends up killing everyone Victor cares about as revenge for Victor not creating a female creature for the monster. What Really Happened to Cedric Digory (The True Origin of the Twilight Series)

So, I was rewatching the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire movie the other day and I started to develop a theory. Cedric Diggory dies at the end of the movie in the graveyard, right? Well, what if he wasn't really dead. What if he just became [duh, duh, dun] a vampire. Ladies and gentlemen, I have just discovered the true origin of Edward Cullen. My first clue was that Robert Pattinson played both characters in the film adaptations. You think Robert Pattinson played Edward Cullen because he likes Twilight ? You're dead wrong. Robert Pattinson hates Twilight! The only reason he did Twilight was out of loyalty to Cedric's story line. Granted, it's one of the more bizarre character arcs in the Harry Potter series, but J.K. I Have Issues with Lady and the Tramp

I don't know if any of you have seen the Disney movie Lady and the Tramp in this century, but as a person who saw it for the first time a few months ago, I have some major issues with this film. It isn't just that pasta is undoubtedly unhealthy for dogs and that mutt gangs roam the streets, no, its the ending that really gets me. For those of you who don't know, during the end sequence of Lady and the Tramp , Lady spots a rat sneaking into the house, presumably to hurt Jim and Darling's baby, but is unable to get inside due to the visiting aunt, the Siamese cats, and their really annoying song which I'm sure we all remember. So, Lady goes to the Tramp for help and they break into the house, the Tramp then proceeds to fight with and kill the rat, although he injures his paw in the process. The aunt then takes the Tramp to the pound, from which Jim and Darling must rescue him when they return home. Now, I'm sure you all see the issue with this turn of events,
