So, I have a series on this blog where I talk about music that I think is underrated. I listen to music basically all day long, so I really enjoy writing these posts and telling you what I'm listening to. About a year ago, I wrote a post about the Red Hot Chili Peppers , one of my favorite bands of all time. In case you don't know, RHCP is a rock band/alt-rock band (with an emphasis on funk, as you'll see) that was formed in the 1980s in LA. They've been making amazing music for decades. In the grand tradition of making lists of songs (which is something I seem to be doing a lot of lately), today I'm going to talk about my favorite Queen songs in honor of the new Bohemian Rhapsody movie.  Now, I did see Bohemian Rhapsody , and I thought it was great. I have an underrated song series on this blog where I talk about the underrated songs of my favorite artists. I haven't written one of these posts in a while, but they seem to be pretty popular, so I thought I'd write about the most underrated songs of my favorite band of all time: the Red Hot Chili Peppers. So, I recently read a book called When Giants Walked the Earth: A Biography of Led Zeppelin (actually, I listened to it because I'm low key addicted to audio books). I have a lot of thoughts about the book (basically it made me appreciate the music more but think less of the band members as people), and maybe I'll write a whole blog post about rock biographies later, but the net result was that it inspire me to go back and listen to a lot of Led Zeppelin music that I haven't listened to in a long time. My dad really likes Led Zeppelin, so I was exposed to their music at a very young age, but I didn't really get interested in it or appreciate it until I was a teenager. Even though I haven't been listening to their music regularly for a few years, I still really enjoy it whenever I hear it, and I would say that they're one of my favorite bands in so much that I love the vast majority of their music. So, I have a lot of friends who don't really like the Beatles and this really, really breaks my heart because I just love the Beatles. I mean, I know that this music is like 50 years old, but it's just so good. In fact, the Beatles have actually held up pretty well - there's a reason they still sell Beatles posters at Wal-Mart. (I have one on my wall, even though it makes me feel sort of uncomfortable because I feel like George Harrison is always looking at me). But, I think that the reason some of my friends don't really like the Beatles is because they don't know their music well enough. Let me clarify that I don't know anyone who actively dislikes the Beatles. I'm pretty sure I couldn't tolerate that. I just know a lot of people who are like "eh, the Beatles, they're okay". No! They're not 'ok'! They're brilliant! I think the problem is that when most people think of the Beatles, they think of "I am the Walrus...

So, yeah, I feel the need to designate this as a serious blog because there is no joking about the state of music in the world. Take this weekend for instance, I was doing all well and good, buyin' stuff at Kohl's until they started playing some Bieber and I realized that I might be outgrowing the juniors section because there was a 1D t-shirt on display. I don't mean to step on any toes...but I'm gonna do it anyway. Popular music these days is incredibly formulaic. I mean, if I want a dirge about teenage emotion, I could always read Twilight (maybe I should do a serious blog about books?). Now, of course, there are exceptions to every rule, but come on, how many times can Taylor Swift have possibly have been dumped? Why does Ke$ha wake up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy?
